8D is a structured approach to problem solving using 9 steps to problem resolution, the original 8D process had 8 steps D0-D7 hence the name 8D.
The Smiths Group 8D approach is based upon the Global 8D approach currently used by Ford with the D8 being added to the original 8 steps
It relies on a data (Fact) driven systematic approach and is a team bases activity .
It is ideally suited to the resolution of special cause (drop off in performance) issues 8D and has been widely used throughout industry as a proven problem-solving tool.
